We all have a story to tell in this big old world. Some of us have exciting lives, while others just live. My story starts with some great parents—loving, strict, but wonderful nonetheless. They had me about a year into their marriage, and a year later, my sister joined the family. It was always just the four of us. Whenever life threw challenges my way, I knew I could always count on my parents.
Of course, life wasn’t always perfect. Like many people, I’ve experienced my fair share of heartache and challenges—moments that tested my resolve and shaped who I am today. Instead of letting those moments define me, I used them to grow, learn, and move forward in a positive way.
When I was young, I made a promise to myself: I would get the best education I could. My ultimate goal? A master’s degree. Back in 2008, after graduating high school, I decided to take a pause on formal education. I wanted to explore the world of work, learn what life had to offer, and build real-world skills. That’s when I began working for a well-known ENT (ear, nose, and throat doctor) practice in my area.
The time I spent there was interesting, to say the least. I worked as a medical secretary and later as a medical assistant, directly supporting patients and keeping the office running smoothly. Most patients were kind and appreciative, though a few tested my patience (as is life). It was here that I first realized how much I enjoyed helping others solve problems and making their lives easier.
This experience laid the foundation for the next chapter in my journey. I transitioned into the technology field, earning my associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems and taking on roles that allowed me to combine my passion for technology with my natural organizational skills. Working as an IT Support Specialist at a community college has been rewarding—I help staff navigate tech challenges, troubleshoot systems, and onboard new employees by setting up accounts and installing essential software. Each day, I get to solve puzzles, make someone’s day a little smoother, and keep the wheels turning behind the scenes.
But I didn’t stop there. I knew my story wasn’t complete. I returned to school to pursue my Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a minor in management. My eyes are set on an even bigger goal: earning my MBA in IT. Education and lifelong learning are not just boxes to check for me—they’re my way of proving to myself that growth is always possible, no matter when you start.
In parallel to my professional career, I’m building something of my own: Nexus Gizmo. My passion for helping others, coupled with my love of technology, inspired me to start this business. Nexus Gizmo is a hub for tech enthusiasts and gamers, offering support to individuals, educational content for those who want to learn, and guidance for families trying to navigate the digital world. I want to help parents understand games and their impact, empower elders to stay safe online, and provide tools that make technology accessible to everyone.
This story is just beginning. I’ve learned that growth comes in stages, and every step—no matter how small—gets you closer to your vision. Whether it’s overcoming a personal challenge, supporting a coworker, or building a dream from the ground up, my journey so far has taught me this: you are the author of your story.
I’m writing mine, one chapter at a time. And for those of you out there reading this—who may feel stuck, uninspired, or unsure—know that you can write yours, too. My story starts here. Where does yours begin?
